Sylvain Distin has rubbished reports suggesting he is holding out for a new two-year contract at Everton.[LNB] It was claimed that discussions regarding a new deal with the French defender had stalled as he waited on an improved offer.[LNB]A one-year extension has been tabled by the Toffees and they are hoping the terms will be acceptable to Distin.[LNB]The 34-year-old, whose current deal expires at the end of the current campaign, insists he would be happy to sign and commit his future to the club.[LNB]"I read today in the newspaper that I was asking for a two-year contract. I am not sure where that has come from but it is completely untrue, and I would like to rectify that," Distin said in the Liverpool Echo.[LNB]"I am happy with one year. If Everton want to give me two then that is all good, but I am really happy with one."[LNB]Distin has been at Goodison Park since 2009 and has been a regular throughout his time on Merseyside.[LNB]He appears certain to start Saturday's derby date with Liverpool and claims he is looking forward to lining up against the Reds' in-form frontman Luis Suarez.[LNB]"Luis seems to be a great player, an amazing player with great quality who can score goals. But he won't be the first great striker I have played against," he said.[LNB]"I have been here for 10 years, I don't know how many games I have played, but I have played against players like Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka, Fernando Torres. I could give you 20 or 50 names of top strikers I have played against.[LNB]"I played against (Edin) Dzeko and (Sergio) Aguero last weekend, so it is just going to be another good challenge, and one which I will enjoy. I can't wait.[LNB]"I actually think Aguero and Suarez are very similar in the way they are built physically and the way they play. It will be another good test."
