Defence pleases Moyes

David Moyes believes Everton are starting to get things right at the back following a shaky start to the season. The Toffees were butchered 6-1 by Arsenal at Goodison in their season-opener, which also happened to be Joleon Lescott's last game for the club. Everton failed to keep a clean sheet in their five matches in all competitions in August and continued that run into September with a 2-1 loss at Fulham. However, since then Moyes' side have kept three consecutive clean sheets and the former Preston manager has been pleased with their recent progress. Everton have signed Sylvain Distin and Johnny Heitinga since Lescott's departure and Moyes always believed there was going to be a settling in period. "I've been happy with the goals we've been scoring but even more happy that we have not been conceding goals," said Moyes. "I see us defensively improving. We have introduced Sylvain and Johnny to the back four and things don't happen right away, it takes time. "I know Sylvain has played in the Premier League for many years so it shouldn't be too new to him but it is still not an easy thing. "I still see it as a considerable step up for Sylvain to come to Everton, while Johnny Heitinga - who has not played in the Premier League before - has now played at right-back and centre-back for us. "It is going to take time for these boys to get used to us and us to them and there is still a lot of work to do. "It has been a good couple of games for us when we have not been conceding goals and that will boost confidence and belief. "But we have kept two in cup games and one in the league and for me that doesn't really warrant me hardly talking about it. "When we've done six or seven out of nine or 10 games, I will start to take more interest in it, but one or two is not enough for me."
