Dave Prentice: Time for Everton FC to make some modern history

EVERTON are often accused of living in the past. And with no silverware to celebrate for 15 years now, the club is sometimes criticised for dragging up former glories by way of scant compensation.[LNB]But those critics miss the point.[LNB]Not to celebrate Everton's outstanding achievements would be the real crime.[LNB]Which is why the Timeline unveiled at Goodison Park on Wednesday is such a stirring idea.[LNB] A collection of resonant images depicting significant moments from the history of one of English football's most celebrated clubs, the Timeline stretches around the perimeter of the arena where so many of those memories were created - and allows fans to take an evocative walk around 132 years of Everton history.[LNB]And while a football club's past achievements can sometimes act as a millstone - remember Manchester United's 26 title-less years - they can also be an incentive.[LNB]If Goodison's current custodians want a pointer to what is expected from then, they need only take a stroll around the stadium.
