Cahill's red card to stand
30 Sep 2008 - 14:55:34
Everton midfielder Tim Cahill will miss his side's next three Premier League matches after the FA rejected an appeal against the red card he was handed in the Merseyside derby.
The 28-year-old will now be suspended for the games against Newcastle United, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Cahill was dismissed by referee Mike Riley for his 80th-minute challenge on Liverpool's Spanish midfielder Xabi Alonso.
Speaking after the 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park, Toffees boss David Moyes was bewildered by the official's decision.
He said: "I've had a chance to look at and I don't see a red card tackle, I really don't.
"I see a yellow card and I don't think it was the worst tackle in the game today. I think we were all really surprised it was a sending off."
Cahill only returned to Moyes' starting line-up against Stoke City earlier this month after spending six months on the sidelines with a broken metatarsal.
