Cahill ready for Socceroos

Everton's Tim Cahill has confirmed he will definitely be fit to start Australia's Asian Cup campaign against next month.

The 27-year-old midfielder had been a doubt for the summer tournament after breaking a metatarsal in his left foot in a Premier League match against Sheffield United in March.

Cahill has undergone intensive treatment in Australia since the end of the season and even been visited by the Toffees medical staff to assess his fitness.

The former Sydney United player will sit out a pre-tournament friendly in Singapore but expects to be in the starting line-up for the clash with Oman on July 8.

"I've got another X-ray to go but they've given me the all-clear for the Asian Cup,'' he told Australia's Herald Sun.

"It's feeling well. It's just good to be back, good to be involved.''

Socceroos strength and conditioning coach Anthony Crea is also confident, adding: "We've still got the reins on him now because he wants to do a little bit more, but we're just being a little bit cautious.

"He'll definitely be ready.

"After the last scans he had the doctors really happy with him. The Everton physio came out and he was really happy so that's a good thing."
