Cahill hopes for investment
31 May 2009 - 16:28:22
Midfielder Tim Cahill has urged Everton to secure the investment needed to step up to the next level following their FA Cup Final defeat.
The Toffees lost Saturday's Wembley showpiece 2-1 to Chelsea and finished fifth in the Premier League - one place outside the Champions League qualification places - in a season of near misses.
Chairman Bill Kenwright has continually suggested he will step aside should a rich benefactor come forward and Cahill believes that investment allied to the potential of the current squad would propel the Toffees into the top echelon of English football.
"Hopefully there will be the investment needed to improve the squad," said the Australia midfielder.
"Now we have a good platform for next season. We have a lot of great youngsters to come in. Some were on the bench at Wembley - Jose Baxter, Jack Rodwell, James Vaughan.
"We have a lot of fresh talent and I just pray to God that all the lads stick together and stay here and next season we can all come back and give it another good go.
"I'm very proud of the lads, proud of the club and everyone involved here.
"The fans have been amazing and considering the injury problems we have had with a very small squad, what we have achieved is tremendous for Everton."
