Brown targets Turner return

Phil Brown is keen to bring goalkeeper Iain Turner back to Preston but has admitted Andrew Lonergan must leave in order to trim the wage bill.[LNB] North End took Turner on loan from Everton in February, with the Scot going on to make 17 appearances. The 27-year-old is available on a free transfer, having come to the end of his contract at Goodison Park.[LNB]"The goalkeeping situation here is one which has been well documented," Brown told the Evening Post. "Andrew Lonergan has been at the club for a long time, and we've discussed it at length that it might be time for him to move on. Therefore we need to bring in another goalkeeper and Iain Turner is at the head of that priority list.[LNB]"Iain went into talks about a further contract with Everton and came out of there of the firm opinion that he wants to play regular first-team football. We are offering him that, and it's just a case of whether we can afford to offer him the kind of deal that would tempt him to come to us.[LNB]"It's a balancing act - we can't afford to carry both Iain Turner and Andrew Lonergan on the books in League One. It might be a case of Iain having to wait until Andrew decides to sign for someone else - it's a waiting game."
