Gary Cahill sent a timely reminderto England manager Fabio Capello that he can provide goals as well asprevent them as Everton's season of strife took another turn for theworse at the Reebok yesterday. [LNB]The sight of a Cahill leaping to good effect in the opposition area normally bodes well for Everton, but not on this occasion. [LNB]While Everton's Tim made littleimpact, and squandered their best chance, his namesake rediscovered ascoring touch that appeared to have deserted him, as he headed in a10th-minute free-kick and laid on a second goal for Daniel Sturridge inthe 67th minute. [LNB] Head boy: Gary Cahill rises to send his header towards the net for the opening goal[LNB]Everton manager David Moyes was moreconcerned about his side's overall failings, as he admitted they werein the midst of a battle to preserve their place in the BarclaysPremier League. [LNB]'The first half was as bad as I canremember in my time in charge,' he fumed. 'Maybe I've gone a bit softon the players and need to be tougher on them, because it's down to meto get the fundamentals out of them. [LNB]'I have thought since about thethird week of the season that we have been in a relegation battle. I'mconfident we have the players to get out of it, but they have toperform. They have to do a lot better than they did today. [LNB] [LNB] Team game: Bolton celebrate after Cahill's effort put them in front at the Reebok[LNB]'It's not as if Bolton opened us up.We conceded two really poor goals, where we failed to win challenges, and even some players who have been performing well lately had theirpoorest game for a long time.' [LNB]Sturridge, watched by last year'sBolton loanee Jack Wilshere, became the first Wanderer since MichaelRicketts 10 years ago to score in each of his first three league games. But there was greater significance in the way Cahill reasserted himselfas a centre half who is dependable at one end and dangerous at theother. [LNB] Watch brief: Jack Wilshere (left) visited his old club, while Daniel Sturridge and John Heitinga squared up[LNB] [LNB]He was a regular on the scoresheet, prior to a blood clot stopping him in his tracks, but had gone 13months without a goal when he peeled away from his marker and metStuart Holden's free-kick with an unchallenged header. [LNB]It deflected off John Heitinga, toleave keeper Tim Howard wrong-footed, but was on target anyway andcounted, surely, as his goal. [LNB]They were made to pay, in a game offew clear-cut chances, as Bolton, who lost Zat Knight with suspectedknee-ligament damage, doubled their lead in the 67th minute. [LNB]Cahill beat Heitinga in the air onthe edge of the area after a free-kick, and when substitute LeeChung-yong headed the ball on to Sturridge, the on loan Chelsea strikerfired past Howard. [LNB]Sturridge has now scored 10 timesfrom his last 10 starts for Chelsea and Bolton, and Wanderers boss OwenCoyle said: 'It's great when you bring players in and it all comestogether. He was craving a platform, and I have the same belief in himthat I had in Jack Wilshere, when he was here on loan.'
