Blue Boys: Kevin Sheedy admits Christmas break not ideal for Everton U18s

Kevin Sheedy admits his young Blues side could do without the Christmas break which pauses U18 Premier League fixtures until the new year.

Everton’s U18s recovered from a poor start to their league campaign to finish the first phase of the competition in third place, meaning they will compete against tops sides from the other regional groups in January. But having recordedback-to-back clean sheets for the first time in their last two games, Sheedy admits he is frustrated with the break. He said:

“It hasn’t come at a good time for us because we’re on a high. I think the academy league should mirror the senior Premier League and continue over Christmas.

“Having to make sacrifices over that time of year and be disciplined is a big part of being a professional footballer so ideally we’d be preparing our players for that. It’s an important time as a senior pro with plenty of points to be picked up and you’ve got to be committed.

“It’s a fact of life.”
