Beckford at the double
Jermaine Beckford scored twice before suffering a late injury scare as Everton coasted to a comfortable 3-0 pre-season friendly win at Preston.
Beckford, a free transfer signing from Leeds, came off the bench to open the scoring in the 50th minute when he latched onto a long ball and slotted past North End goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.
Everton moved 2-0 ahead in the 67th minute when Louis Saha collected a pass from Phil Neville and rifled the ball home.
But Beckford seized centre stage again three minutes later when he picked up a fine pass from Saha and again showed his class with a fine volley in front of the visiting fans.
However he was later clattered in a tackle and substituted in the closing stages after appearing to suffer an ankle injury.
