Bates demands compensation

Ken Bates has confirmed Leeds United are seeking 'substantial compensation' from Everton for teenager Luke Garbutt. The 16-year-old left-back turned down the chance to join Leeds as a scholar and professional in order to seal a move to Goodison Park. Bates, who reportedly won £4million in compensation for Tom Taiwo and Michael Woods' moves to Chelsea, insists the days of Leeds youngsters being poached on the cheap are over. He has demanded action from both the Football League and Premier League to help combat poaching further down the line. "We are dissatisfied. We're chasing the matter with the Football League and the Premier League and we're seeking substantial compensation," he told Yorkshire Radio. "The days of nicking Leeds players and paying peanuts are over. We are determined to be adequately compensated for the work we are doing in our academy."
