Barry Horne: Overdue praise for Everton FC is finally being received

EVERTON’S performance at Fulham was sublime. A lack of concentration in defence late on cost them but by the same token, that wouldn’t have mattered if they’d have converted all their chances at the other end. Marouane Fellaini was sensational at Craven Cottage and it was probably his best performance since the first day of the season. However, the truly great players produce those kind of displays every three-to-four games so as talented as he is, he still needs to work on his consistency. I’ve been saying for a while now that Everton are one of the most consistently entertaining teams in the Premier League but it’s typical of football that some reputations take an awful long time to get rid of. Many casual observers who don’t watch Everton on a regular basis come out with back-handed compliments like saying they’re ‘hard-working’, ‘well-organised’ and ‘difficult to beat.’ This may have been true in David Moyes’ early years but they’ve come a long way since then but it’s only recently that observers away from Goodison Park have started to come out and acknowledge just how attractive Everton’s football is. Some pundits go on and on about how Wigan and Swansea are good footballing teams – but with all due respect neither of those two play anything like the kind of football that Everton can produce. I’m watching Wigan play another of those supposed footballing sides West Brom today but I tell you – I’d much rather be at Goodison Park. Related stories From around the web Related Tags
