Barry Horne: Manager of the Month accolade so deserved for Everton FC's David Moyes

THE decision to name David Moyes as the Premier League’s manager of the month for September must have been one of the easiest decisions the selection panel has ever had to make. The Capital One Cup disappointment apart, Everton’s football last month was not only successful, it was supremely easy on the eye. There seems to have been a subtle shift in emphasis in Everton’s play this season. The Blues are prepared to concede more chances in a bid to try and score more, and the end product has been thrilling. Players like Nikica Jelavic, Kevin Mirallas, Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar are constantly getting the ball in areas where they can cause maximum damage to opposition defences –and they are doing it regularly. When shortlists are drawn up for other, apparently more ‘prestigious’ jobs, David Moyes’ name is always attached almost as an after-thought. His name is listed as a possible contender, and his achievements are listed, without any serious suggestion that he might actually get the job while other apparently ‘more credible’ contenders are suggested as more likely candidates. The day when David Moyes will be rewarded for his endeavours with such ‘rewards’ will hopefully come a long way from now. He has done an excellent job at Everton during the last decade and long may his reign, and his successful relationship with Bill Kenwright continue.
