BARRY HORNE: I fear for Everton in Goodison derby, even though I know we’ll win!

28 November 2009 00:00
PRIOR to Wednes- day's desperately disappointing result and performance, I was actually looking forward to tomorrow's derby match.[LNB]I starting to feel optimistic, having taken the view that Liverpool was a club in a state of some disarray, while Everton were just enduring a run of ill-fortune.[LNB]One result, of course, shouldn't change that view considerably, and I still have total faith in the people managing and running Everton Football Club.[LNB]But it does appear that whilst David Moyes, to his great credit, continues not to use his crippling injury list as an excuse, it would appear that the burden placed upon his stretched resources is actually proving too much.[LNB]A combination of players having to play in every game, regardless of form, and key players having to play not in their preferred positions, is less than ideal.[LNB]Everton's strength under David Moyes has arisen from players knowing exactly what their jobs were, in a system they were comfortable with - round pegs in round holes.[LNB]Having to use square pegs in round holes over a long period of time, and suffering a sequence of poor results, inevitably leads to a lack of confidence.[LNB]And a catastrophic 30 minutes at the KC Stadium set the alarm bells ringing.
