BARRY HORNE: Everton have no time to dwell on Europa League defeat at Benfica

EVERTON fans did themselves proud in Lisbon but a much anticipated night ended in an embarrassing defeat.[LNB]In the grand scheme of things, when we look back in two or three months, it's unlikely to be as damaging as either the scoreline or some of the press coverage suggests.[LNB]The fact is we're still in control of our own destiny and we should still qualify from the group stage.[LNB]We recovered from a similar humiliation after we lost 5-1 to Dinamo Bucharest in September 2005.[LNB]Back then we picked ourselves up and there was no long term damage - we've got to do the same again.[LNB]David Moyes quite rightly said his players will learn from this experience and they need to.[LNB]Individuals have seen now what's required when you get to that level.[LNB]Both before the game and afterwards people picked up on the lack of experience in the Everton team.[LNB]But the side Moyes put out wasn't as inexperienced as some of the coverage would suggest.[LNB]Nine of the side had top flight experience and many have played international football and big games in Europe.[LNB]But, crucially, the two areas where we were inexperienced was where we were exposed.[LNB]It was a harsh lesson for our full-backs but one that will stand them in good stead for the future.
