Baines ready to shine for Everton and make England's World Cup squad

Everton full-back Leighton Baines wants another taste of England action with next summer's World Cup finals still his long term aim.   Baines was called into the England squad last season but has yet to make his full debut after winning 16 Under 21 caps.   He said: 'I've had a taste of the England squad so the World Cup finals are always at the back of your mind. I just have to play well and hope to impress the England coach.  'I am keen to get back into that. But that will only happen if my own form is good and the team continue to do well.   'Ashley Cole and Wayne Bridge are probably the two automatic selections and with good reason, because they are two top players.   'At the moment I have got to get my form up and back to where I want it to be, like the rest of us here.   'Hopefully if I can get there the other things will take care of themselves.' Meanwhile, Everton have dismissed claims they tried to sign Niko Kranjcar from Portsmouth before Tuesday's transfer deadline.   Kranjcar has been reported as saying he turned down the opportunity of a move to Goodison Park before agreeing to sign for Tottenham in a £2.75million deal.   But manager David Moyes said: 'Not at any point did anyone from the club contact Portsmouth to express an interest in Niko Kranjcar.   'In Steven Pienaar and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov we already have players who provide excellent cover in his chosen position.'
