Baines' honour at England call
Everton full-back Leighton Baines admits it is a 'great honour' to have been named in Fabio Capello's England squad.
Baines has been included in the senior squad for the first time for Saturday's friendly against Slovakia and next week's World Cup qualifier with Ukraine.
The former Wigan Athletic ace has replaced the injured Wayne Bridge in the squad and is the only uncapped player in Capello's plans for the two fixtures.
He accepts it will be tough to dislodge Ashley Cole in the team for the games against Slovakia and Ukraine, but is relishing the chance to play for his country.
"I was delighted to be in the initial 30 and obviously even more so to be in the actual squad," Baines told the club's official website.
"It is a great honour to be selected for your country and, although I know it will be difficult to break into the actual team, I'm looking forward to the experience."
The defender's Everton team-mates Phil Jagielka and Joleon Lescott have also been included in the squad for the upcoming Wembley dates.
And Baines believes the inclusion of three Toffees defenders proves how well David Moyes' side have been playing in recent weeks.
He added: "What makes it even better is that two of my defensive team-mates at Everton are also in the squad and that reflects very well on how well we have been defending in the last few months."
