Atletico deny Heitinga bid

Atletico Madrid have strongly denied rumours in the Spanish press that defender Johnny Heitinga is the subject of a bid from Everton. It is no secret that the Toffees are on the lookout for a replacement for Joleon Lescott after the England international moved to Manchester City for £24million earlier this week. Everton manager David Moyes has already moved for Portsmouth centre-half Sylvain Distin but the Merseyside club are reportedly keen to bring in at least three more players before the transfer window shuts next Tuesday. Heitinga only signed for Atletico from Ajax last summer for a fee of around 10million euros and has a contract until 2013. The Spanish club are thought to be looking to trim their squad but the Dutchman is said to be a key part of manager Abel Resino's plans. "Atletico Madrid are not looking into the exit of Heitinga. This is clear." a Atletico club spokesman said. "We have not received any formal offers for the player." At present Heitinga, 25, has remained silent over the issue.
