Anichebe out for the season
05 Mar 2009 - 09:59:30
Everton boss David Moyes has confirmed that Victor Anichebe will play no more football this season.
The young striker damaged the cartilage in his right knee during last month's draw at Newcastle United after being caught by Kevin Nolan, a challenge that led to the Magpies midfielder being sent off.
A scan on the injured knee has proved inconclusive so Anichebe will undergo exploratory surgery.
Toffees boss David Moyes confirmed to the club's official website: "Victor will have to have an operation.
"He's damaged his cartilage and is out for the season. It's a blow for the boy as he'd just got back into the team, and it's another player we've lost."
Anichebe is the third Everton player to be ruled out for the season following Yakubu and Mikel Arteta's misfortune.
