Anichebe backs mate Vaughan
24 Jul 2007 - 09:50:22
Everton striker James Vaughan has been backed to overcome his latest injury setback by Toffees team-mate Victor Anichebe.
Vaughan faces several months out of action after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the pre-season clash with Preston North End, having missed a chunk of last season with a foot problem.
Anichebe admitted that his colleague was devastated by another setback, but is now determined to fight his way back again.
He told the club's official website: "He wanted to give up because he was thinking 'how can this happen to me again', but it's not a career-threatening injury.
"It's the timing because he was doing so well and to get put back again is tough.
"He's alright now, but at first he was a bit shook up.
"But he's a fighter and I know he will come back stronger. He just needs everyone around him helping him and pushing him."
Vaughan, 19, has been restricted to just 18 first-team appearances for the Toffees to date, scoring five goals - three of which came in the final five games of last season.
