Alvaro Negredo becomes Moyes' New Number One Transfer Deadline Day target

In the early hours of transfer deadline day, Everton are in pursuit of Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo. After failed re-negotiations with FC Twente for central midfielder Leyroy Fer, David Moyes has turned his attention to the 27 year old Spaniard. Sevilla value the player at £13m but with the club currently in financial turmoil they could be forced to sell for less. The Liverpool Echo’s Everton FC correspondent Greg O’Keeffe tweeted: “The Spain international is now Moyes’ number one target and Blues hoping to get him for £9m”. He also added that if this move was to fail “they’ll (Everton) turn to another La Liga striker”. BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty also confirmed that talks were on-going.

Negredo boasts some impressive stats scoring six times in his 12 appearances for Spain. Whilst for Sevilla he has 14 goals to his name this season after just 21 outings. This resemblance of a finishing trait would certainly add to David Moyes’ squad, with a current mis-firing Nikica Jelavic. As with the proposed Leyroy Fer deal the transfer would involve a smaller initial fee with the rest arriving in instalments, with the security of the new ‘Sky’ money incoming this summer.

Everton are also hopeful of potentially bringing in an additional one or two new faces before today’s 11pm deadline, with Club Brugge midfielder Vadis Odjidja Ofoe a previous target of Moyes’, being linked. Ofoe nearly signed for Everton on deadline day of the last transfer window, however an issue with late paperwork hitched the deal. The young Belgians’ agent was at Goodison Park for Everton’s 2-1 win against West Brom on Wednesday night according to Greg O’Keeffe, although he is also Kevin Mirallas’ agent. There could still be potential for a deal to be done with Moyes having only four natural central midfielders in his squad.

After the frustration that looms after the Leyroy Fer situation, chief executive of Everton, Robert Elstone, gave an encouraging interview to everton tv claiming that the saga has given him a spirit of “come on let’s get on with another one”. This comes as great news for all Evertonians as they seek to improve their squad for the battle for that all important 4th place.
