Alan Pardew dares Newcastle fans to enjoy the dream after extending fairytale start

Even Newcastle manager Alan Pardew allowed himself to get carried away after his players equalled the club's best ever start to a season and briefly climbed into second place in the Barclays Premier League.[LNB]But then there is nearly a fortnight before Newcastle embark on a three-game run which will test them and their chances of sustaining a fight among the country's elite.[LNB]It is 17 years, or before that back to the 1950s, since Newcastle achieved an 11-match unbeaten opening and Pardew has tried to quell the euphoria which has engulfed Tyneside.[LNB]They now have two trips to Manchester before Chelsea become the next side to test Pardew's impressive record of winning the 15 of his 17 games at St James' Park.[LNB] No chance: Everton keeper Tim Howard is beaten by Ryan Taylor's magnificent half-volley[LNB]Pardew may have been keeping his players' feet on the ground, but he also made them very aware of their potential achievement before they benefited from an unnecessary John Heitinga touch to a routine Danny Simpson cross, and another wonder-strike from Ryan Taylor's right boot.[LNB]He got the first 50,000-plus crowd of the season he wanted and afterwards, he urged them to dream.[LNB]Pardew said: 'I don't want to dampen expectations and dampen the mood. I am not here for that.[LNB]'I want Newcastle fans to enjoy this and if they are dreaming of the Champions League, let them dream, it is fantastic, good luck to them. In the dressing room we have to be a little more conservative about our approach. We are a new team, we have done terrific and we go to the next game, that's it.[LNB]'But it is a great achievement for everyone at the club, regardless of the role they have here. Everybody believes in each other and trusts each other, from the staff who work at the stadium, to the training ground. It is brilliant to able to say we are unbeaten at this time and we should be very proud of that.[LNB] Caught flat-footed: John Heitinga deflects Danny Simpson's cross into his own net[LNB]'I wasn't playing a game. Manchester City has not been mentioned yet, the focus was on Everton, but it will now and we are very much looking forward to it.' [LNB]The two-week break before they face the leaders and the division's only other unbeaten side has come at the right time for Pardew and his players.[LNB]He is nervously awaiting the outcome of scans to Yohan Cabaye, Leon Best and Sylvain Marveaux after all three were forced out of this uncomfortable win over an Everton side sadly lacking a cutting edge.[LNB]Although he hopes to have Cheik Tiote and Gabriel Obertan back from their knee and toe injuries, he was pessimistic on the likelihood of the influential Cabaye and Marveaux making the trip to the Etihad Stadium. Best is a doubt for Ireland's Euro 2012 play-offs against Estonia this week, and his wife is about to give birth.[LNB] Home faithful: Alan Pardew has told the Toon Army to think big[LNB]Everton boss David Moyes felt his side deserved a draw after Louis Saha hit the post and had a drive turned away by Dan Gosling's outstretched arm, out of the sight of the officials' and Moyes, he admitted.[LNB]But once again he was unable to excuse the poor defending and finishing which is blighting their season.[LNB]He said: 'I think on the games we've played our league position is representative. We've lost them, so it's a true reflection of how we've played.[LNB]'We've not scored enough and we've not defended well enough and that was probably all noticeable in this game.[LNB]'You never want to go into a break on the back of a defeat, so we've got to suffer for two weeks before we can go out and do it again.'
