Argentina international Pablo Aimar looks set to seal a move from Real Zaragoza to Benfica rather than move to either Everton or Newcastle United.
Both Premier League teams had been linked with the 28-year-old former Valencia midfielder, but he appears to have opted to move to Lisbon.
Zaragoza's communications director, Luis Sol, told Portuguese website maisfutebol.iol.pt: "He is about to sign a contract with Benfica.
"Between Zaragoza and Benfica everything is sorted out. The doors are open for Aimar to become Benfica player.
"The only information we have is that between both clubs, everything is resolved. This is the reason he went to meet the Benfica board.
"He might travel to Lisbon (on Wednesday night) with (Benfica sporting director) Rui Costa."
Aimar is expected to pen a three-year deal with Benfica after completing his 7.5million euros switch.
