Torrado told to snub Espanyol

Mexico international midfielder Gerardo Torrado may have to wait a few months before being able to try his luck in Spain for a second time.

The 29-year-old is a January target for Espanyol, but his current club, Cruz Azul, hope that Torrado will stay put until next summer, when he will have a choice of possible destinations.

Cruz Azul president Guillermo Alvarez said: "It is convenient for both parties, as it means that in six months he would be able to make his dream of playing in Spain come true.

"Torrado's wish is understandable and the club will try to back him so in six months he could play in a better team than Espanyol.

"He will have to think that at the end of June he will be able to sign for any club he wants."

Midfield enforcer Torrado has previously played in La Liga with Tenerife, Sevilla and Racing Santander, while he is also approaching a century of appearances for Mexico.
