Pochettino pens new contract

Coach Mauricio Pochettino has been rewarded for keeping Espanyol in La Liga with a new three-year contract.

The Argentinian coach took the reins in January with the Barcelona-based club languishing in the relegation zone, but ultimately guided them to a comfortable tenth-placed finish.

Pochettino assistant Feliciano Di Blasi have both put pen to paper on new deals which tie them to the club until summer 2012.

The initial appointment of the South American had been met with raised eyebrows as the former Espanyol defender's only previous coaching experience had been with the club's ladies' team.
