Kameni sorry for fan spat
07 Jan 2009 - 07:20:11
Espanyol goalkeeper Carlos Kameni has apologised for his recent clash with a fan during training with the Barcelona-based club.
Kameni grabbed a spectator after reacting to taunts from the sidelines, with the club's official supporters' club calling for the Cameroon international to be suspended and fined for his actions.
He responded by telling Espanyol's official club website. "I completely regret what happened and I did not want to attack anyone or create any problems.
"What I can say is that it is very difficult to listen to certain comments when training. I tried to ignore it and I only wanted to show the man that I was annoyed and asked him to respect me.
"The first person to criticise me is myself. I always demand the maximum from myself in training and in games.
"That is the main reason why I could not accept the comments being made and because of my personal situation and the team's position."
Kameni, 24, is out of contract next summer and has been linked with a move to England to join Fulham in recent days.
