Kane unable to play

Harry Kane has withdrawn from the England Under-21s squad ahead of their European Championship qualifiers against Finland and San Marino due to injury.

The 20-year-old forward featured for Tottenham as a 69th-minute substitute in their Europa League win over Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday but he is not fit enough to join up with the national team.

In an unconnected move prior to Kane's withdrawal it was revealed that head coach Gareth Southgate had invited Manchester United youngster Will Keane to join the squad at the St George's Park training base at Burton-upon-Trent.

The 21-year-old striker arrived on Sunday night - with his twin brother and club-mate Michael who was originally named in the squad - as he continues his comeback from a knee injury sustained on duty with England Under-19s against Switzerland in May 2012.

"I've invited Will along to join us for training this week and it's great to see him back," Southgate told thefa.com.

"He suffered the injury when he was playing for England last year so I'd like him to feel that he's in our thoughts.

"He's back playing for United now so if this can help him in his rehab and get reacquainted with his England squad mates then we're more than happy to help."

Southgate does not plan for Keane to feature in the games with Finland or San Marino.
