Former Manchester United, England and Everton defender Phil Neville has suggested that once he retires from his playing career he plans to take up a coaching role.

Neville, 35 who has played over 650 professional games since making his Manchester United debut in a 3-1 defeat at Aston Villa in August 1995 has had an established career winning the top prizes in club football.

The Everton defender has received a surprise invite from England U-21 coach Stuart Pearce to join his staff for the Three Lions Euro 2013 qualifier against Belgium.

His elder sibling Gary, 37 has recently been added to Roy Hodgson's coaching staff in the national set up and Phil would be more than happy to follow in his brothers footsteps. Though he isn't eager to hand his boots up just yet and is concentrating on another year at least in top flight football with the Goodison Park club.

"It was an honour to be linked but there was no approach," he told the Daily Mail. "I am still a player. I think it would have been impossible for me to do it."

"To go away with the Under-21s was an amazing opportunity," he added. I see David Moyes and other managers being obsessed with detail and sometimes think 'Switch off', but you can't. Those three days were a perfect learning experience. It also made me realise what a special thing being involved for your country was."
