World Cup 2010 draw - as it happened

04 December 2009 16:01

Follow live text commentary from 1700 GMT as the 32 qualifiers find out who they'll face at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa next summer.

Lastly we will recap England's fixtures.  We start in Rustenberg against America, followed by the Algerians in Cape Town and rounding off against Slovenia in Port Elizabeth.  A nice draw for England and Capello's side will face the second placed team in a group consisting of Germany, Ghana, Australia and Serbia.

6.32 - Ivory Coast, one of the possible dark-horses for the tournament, yet again face the group of death.  In 2006 they faced Argentina, Holland and Serbia.  This time around they are paired with Brazil, Portugal and North Korea.  Don't fancy Korea's chances there, the Ivorians can definately put Portugal out though!

6.30 - So a quick recap: England will fancy their chances of winning Group C, they will face Algeria, USA and Slovenia.

6.26 - Italy, Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia complete Group F, G consists of Brazil, North Korea, Ivory Coast and Portugal which looks like the Group of Death.  The final group is Spain, Honduras, Switzerland and Chile.

6.25 - Serbia are another potential second round opponent for England along with Germany, Australia and Ghana.  Denmark have Cameroon, Japan and Holland.

6.23 - So, there is England's group completed... USA, Algeria and Slovenia.  It looks straight-forward enough but some good players in those squads.

6.22 - Greece are picked out to face Argentina, Nigeria and South Korea so Diego Maradona has a favourable looking draw.

6.21 - This is the pot we have been dreading.  France and Portugal are the ones to avoid for the majority of teams.  France are first out and look favourites with South Africa, Mexico and Uruguay so their relegation from the first seeds may have worked out well for them.

6.18 - South Africa's group is shaping up nicely for the hosts, Mexico and Uruguay could prove a bit of a lottery.  England's second round opponents could potentially be Ghana but Germany will have a tough time of it in the group stages.

6.16 - Algeria are drawn into England's group.  Fabio Capello's side miss out on Didier Drogba's Ivory Coast which they will no doubt be happy about - the Ivorians won't though as they will face Brazil.

6.13 - Tough draws for Honduras (Spain) and North Korea (Brazil), drawing the two favourites.

6.11 - For what it is worth, there is the potential of England v Germany in the second round if either team finishes second in their group.  Germany are paired with Australia so far.

6.08 - So South Africa v Mexico in the opening game of the 2010 World Cup and England's first opponents will be the United States of America.

6.06 - In order of group, the first seeds are (A) South Africa, (B) Argentina, (C) England, (D) Germany, (E) Netherlands, (F) Italy, (G) Brazil, (H) Spain.

6.03 - Remember, South Africa will be automatically placed into Group A and only European nations can face teams from the same confederation (a maximum of two Euro nations per group).

5.31 - Be honest, who has done a mock draw earlier in the day?  Come on we know you did, mine paired England with Mexico, Paraguay and Slovenia.  Give us your comments, who do you want, who do you want to avoid?

5.19 - Not long to go now.  All we need to do is sit through the build up then we should be underway!
