Wilshere ready for crunch clash

England midfielder Jack Wilshere has declared himself fit for what he concedes will be the biggest game of his international career.

Wilshere may only have eight caps, but he is already considered one of the most capable players in the England squad - thanks mainly to his exquisite talent and also because of a lack of strength in depth within the ranks.

Wilshere made his return from an ankle injury in October 2012, but England and Arsenal fans have only seen glimpses of the star since, with Arsene Wenger keen to ease the 21-year-old back in to action for fear of another setback.

He has only completed three of the seven games he has played so far this season and England boss Roy Hodgson removed the midfielder, who was suffering from a stomach bug last week, in the second half of the 4-0 win over Moldova on Friday.

The crowd agonised every time the Moldovans kicked out at Wilshere knowing another injury could put paid to his chances of starting against Ukraine on Tuesday, but he insists he is fully fit for the crunch game in Kiev.

"Yes, I'll be okay. I felt good," the Arsenal man said after the victory.

"I had a bug last week and that took my energy away a little bit so the idea was to get an hour under my belt and I felt good.

"That will do me well for Tuesday."

Had it not been for a number of serious injuries, Wilshere would have amassed four, maybe five times the number of caps he already has.

Friday's game was his first appearance in England's World Cup qualifying campaign, with the majority of his caps coming in friendlies.
