Who Will Win The World Cup?

As the fans wait to gather around their television sets in their homes or better still, in the pubs, where there is a livelier atmosphere to be had, one question is on the lips of them all; who will win the World Cup?

Will it be a European team? Can Italy or France raise the cup aloft once again? Both have squads that are capable enough, but in Italy’s case, maybe time is against them with ageing players and the relentless heat that they will have to play in. Or will those Germans do what they do so well each time and work out a way to not only play but succeed in the heat of the day?

Will it be an African team? Since the advent years ago of the team from Cameroon [and we all remember those heady days] there has been a fascination within and from the footballing African continent. One day they will win it. Last time out the South Africans wanted it so much to be their tournament.

Will it be a South American team? With the likes of Argentina and Brazil there, one has to put them as favourites, if we were taking odds and money from you. Brazil on home turf is going to be a challenge to all teams concerned, to say the least.

Or are we overlooking something here in our haste to state which one will be triumphant? One thing is certain; whichever team wins, what is sure is that in that heat, with those players, they will have taken their chances and worked out the way to win, along with having the will to win.

Who will it be in 2014? Your guess is as good as mine, but I am English, with French family, so I know who I will be cheering for when the time comes. If only it could be an England v France final. So I say one thing: “Bring on the football!”
