What lies next for England

After an incredible come-back against Sweden on Friday, what lies in store for England if they can secure a positive result against the Ukraine tomorrow night?

All we know is that if we secure a draw or better we will be facing either Spain, Italy or potentially Croatia depending on results tonight. England fans will want to beat Ukraine comfortably and pip France to the group on goal difference so that we play the runner-up of Group C. England fans however will be haunted by that night at Wembley where Croatia beat England 3-2 on home soil and stopped England qualifying for Euro 2008. In recent times though England have dominated the Croats and out the three most England fans will be hoping to face them in the quarter-final stage.

The chances of facing Croatia are slim though as many expect both Italy and Spain to win tonight and qualify. Basing on these assumptions unless we beat France to top spot we will face European and World cup winners Spain in the quarter-finals. Spain, who are currently unbeaten heading into their game against Croatia tonight are joint favourites to life the trophy. Alongside Germany they are the team to beat in the competition and if England were to stun them in the quarter-finals it would take a brave man to bet against England to reach the final.

If France do slip up against Sweden though it could well mean England facing Italy in the quarter-finals. This would also be a tricky route to the final as it would mean a potential semi-final clash with the Germans. However England get through the group it is going to take a remarkable effort to even make the semi-finals let alone the final. The Italians look the weakest but they've proven they are no pushovers with a hard earned point against Spain in the Group C opener.
