Wayne Rooney has revealed that he slept through Friday's World Cup draw and was unaware of England's opposition until 10pm.

Rooney was in a London hotel room ahead of Manchester United's Premier League game against West Ham United on Saturday but nodded off and missed the draw in South Africa.

Rooney, who became a father for the first time last month, was unaware that England had been given a kind draw after being placed in Group C alongside Algeria, Slovenia and the United States.

"I was asleep until 10pm," he revealed. "We got the train down to London and got to the hotel about 5pm.

"I lay down on my bed to watch TV. I fell asleep and didn't find out what the draw was until five hours later."

Meanwhile, Rooney admitted the draw is a "good" one for the Three Lions.

"It was a good draw. I saw the USA play the Confederations Cup on telly and that will be the difficult game for us. They have lots of World Cup experience," he continued.

"We should win against the other two teams. Of course we need to respect them.

"I don't know too much about Algeria but I'm sure the manager and
his coaches will have loads of information before we play them.

"We faced Slovenia two months ago and beat them 2-1 so it will be a tough game but it could have been worse."
