Walcott doubtful for Ukraine match
England were waiting anxiously on Sunday to see whether Theo Walcott, their star performer in the 3-2 win over Sweden on Friday, would be fit to play in their crucial final Euro 2012 Group D match with co-hosts Ukraine on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old - who scored and then created Danny Welbeck's winner against the Swedes to put England second on goal difference to France in the group - suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in training on Sunday.
"Unfortunately he had a slight setback in training today," Hodgson told the BBC.
"He felt the hamstring that kept him out for so long at the end of last season and that we were slightly concerned about when he came to us. But we have been lucky that nothing has occurred with that.
"In the little training session we had today we had to take the precaution of taking him from the field because he felt a slight tightness there."
Walcott will now be assessed by England's medical staff before Hodgson makes a final decision.
England just need a point from their match to guarantee a place in the quarter-finals while Ukraine realistically need to win to progress.
