Upson: No England ease up
08 Jun 2009 - 16:33:09
Defender Matthew Upson has warned his England colleagues against complacency ahead of Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Andorra.
An in-form England are expected to brush the Group Six minnows aside comfortably at Wembley after racking up their sixth consecutive qualifying victory with Saturday's 4-0 rout of Kazakhstan.
But West Ham defender Upson doesn't believe that England can afford to lose focus in what will be their final match before a summer break.
He warned: "There is no reason why we can't get another positive result.
"But we cannot afford to look ahead too much because we need to keep going.
"Nobody is looking forward to their summer holidays yet and if you had seen our training session this morning then you would have seen the commitment.
"It's important to have a winning mentality."
Meanwhile, Upson has admitted that reaching a World Cup finals will fulfil a lifetime ambition.
"To get to the World Cup would mean everything to me," added the 30-year-old centre-half.
"I've dreamed about it for a long time. I've worked very hard over the past four or five years and I would love to go."
