    United clear Rooney to play

    05 Feb 2007 - 11:52:32

Manchester United have given Wayne Rooney the all-clear to join up with England for Wednesday's friendly against Spain despite the striker suffering an ankle knock on Sunday.

The United striker was replaced by Louis Saha after 64 minutes of the 4-0 victory at White Hart Lane.

After the match, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson revealed Rooney would undergo scans on the injury before a decision would be taken on whether he would join up with Steve McClaren's side.

However, following scans on Monday morning, Rooney has been given permission to join the squad.

The Football Association's medical department will now have the final say over the 21-year-old's participation in the Old Trafford match.

Meanwhile, Tottenham's Jermaine Jenas has pulled out of the England squad after suffering a recurrence of a recent ankle injury.

The midfielder made a goalscoring return in last weekend's FA Cup victory over Southend United before picking up a fresh problem in the midweek Carling Cup defeat against Arsenal.
