Ukraine must ban English thugs - governor

Ukraine must prevent English hooligans from entering the country during Euro 2012, according to the governor of the eastern city of Donetsk, which will host England's group-stage matches.

"We have to make it impossible for English 'ultras' to come to Ukraine," said Andri Chichatski, whose comments were confirmed to AFP by his press office.

"It would be better to be accused of a lack of openness than to have incidents."

Chichatski called on Ukrainian law and order forces to identify potential troublemakers prior to the start of the tournament in order to stop them from entering the country.

Euro 2012, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, runs from June 8-July 1 next year.

Donetsk is one of four Ukrainian host cities and will host three Group D matches, as well as one quarter-final and one semi-final.

England were drawn in Group D alongside Ukraine, France and Sweden.
