U21s head to Bristol City

The England U21 side will take on Uzbekistan in a friendly at Ashton Gate in August. The match, which will be played at Bristol City's ground on August 10, will act as a warm-up for European Championship qualifiers against Portugal and Lithuania in September. "It's early in the season but when we were in Bristol last time it was near enough a full stadium which was fantastic," said Stuart Pearce, the U21 coach. "It's one of those places that we get great support and we're hoping for the same again." The young Three Lions need wins from both their qualifiers if they are to have any hope of reaching the finals, which will be held in Denmark next summer. They are second in their group, five points behind Greece, and finishing runner-up looks to be their best hope of qualification - that would involve them going through a play-off. It will be the fourth time the U21 side have played at the West Country ground. Their most recent visit was a 1-1 draw with Romania in August 2007, while they defeated Italy 1-0 in 1997 and Turkey 3-0 in 1985. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 concessions, they can be purchased at Ashton Gate or on 0871 2226666.
