U19s urged to focus on performance

Noel Blake, coach of the England U19 side, wants his side to focus on playing well rather than winning matches as they head to Ukraine in a bid to reach the European Championship finals. The young Three Lions will take on the Republic of Ireland in Kiev on Wednesday afternoon, followed by Bosnia on Friday and the hosts Ukraine on Monday. "If we are in the elite round, the only objective is to try and qualify for the finals, but equally, it's about how we perform as well," said Blake. "Ultimately, the main objective is to develop international footballers to go on to the Under-21 and Senior team so it is important that they perform well. "The squad are coming here for tournament experience, but we're looking for performances and hopefully the results will look after themselves. If you don't perform, you get no rewards and that's the key for me."
