Two weeks out for Rio

Rio Ferdinand, the England captain, was ruled out of Wednesday's friendly against Denmark after suffering a calf injury while warming up for a Premier League game. The centre-back was part of the Manchester United squad preparing to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday evening, but had to pull out of that game and take himself out of contention for the Three Lions squad. Sir Alex Ferguson, the United manager, expected Ferdinand to be out for two weeks with the problem. "It was a blow because the experience Rio has got is always vital in games like that," he said, referring to the game against Wolves that the Red Devils went on to lose 2-1 to end the last unbeaten record in the Premier League this season.
