Raheem Sterling, Leighton Baines and James Milner are to be released from the England squad and will not travel to Italy for Tuesday's friendly in Turin, manager Roy Hodgson has announced.

Liverpool forward Sterling has a toe injury, Manchester City's Milner is carrying a knee problem and Baines will also return to his club Everton.

Danny Welbeck is also a doubt for the Italy game after injuring his knee in the 4-0 win over Lithuania on Friday night, Hodgson said in his post-match press conference.

The England manager also confirmed Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand will be joining up with the squad on Saturday.
