The internet reacts to Harry Kane's England debut

28 March 2015 10:39

It took just 80 seconds and three touches for Tottenham striker Harry Kane to score his first England senior goal. Kane nodded home at the back post to put the Three Lions 4-0 ahead against Lithuania.

He was well received, to say the least.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, missing from the squad through injury, was one of the first people to show his delight at Kane’s goal:

48-goal former England striker Gary Lineker praised the immediate impact of Kane – who scored with his third touch of the game.

BBC Radio Five Live commentator and former England international Chris Waddle was more focused on the standard of opposition against who Kane scored his maiden England goal.

As he congratulated Kane, ex-England and Tottenham goalkeeper Ray Clemence referenced that popular White Hart Lane song that you can’t watch Tottenham play without hearing.

Celebrities were also quick to give their opinion on Kane’s effort, with Arsenal fan Piers Morgan joking that the Spurs striker is still not good enough to play for the Gunners.

Whilst One Direction band member Louis Tomlinson appeared to be using Kane’s special night to overcome losing fellow band member Zayn Malik earlier in the week.

There were, of course, also memes. Lots of memes.
