Terry targets victory
23 Mar 2007 - 15:22:00
England captain John Terry believes only a victory against Israel in Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier will compensate for the poor display in the last competitive fixture against Croatia.
England produced an insipid performance as they crashed to a 2-0 defeat in Zagreb that left them third in Group E and struggling to qualify for next year's finals in Austria and Switzerland.
"Certainly coming into it there's a lot on this game, everyone knows we need to win this game and nothing else," said the Chelsea stalwart.
"As a group of players we want to improve on the last performances and get up the table to where we belong.
"We all know we didn't play well. This is about a group of players taking it on our shoulders to make something happen.
"We didn't play well as a team or individuals and we realise we need to make something happen now and do something about it.
"To watch over (the Croatia defeat) again has been heartbreaking, to be honest. We owe the fans, ourselves and the manager.
"I don't like to see us where we are at the moment. We can't come here and say a draw is a good result. At the moment a draw will not be good enough for us."
