Terry set for England return
12 Oct 2008 - 08:10:22
Fabio Capello has dropped a strong hint that John Terry will be fit and recalled for England's World Cup qualifier against Belarus on Wednesday.
The Chelsea and England captain was ruled out of Saturday's 5-1 victory over Kazakhstan at Wembley with a back problem.
West Ham United defender Matthew Upson deputised alongside stand-in skipper Rio Ferdinand in a game where the home defence was given a relatively easy ride.
However, Capello expects Terry to return to training ahead of the Belarus game and has suggested he will recall his captain for the midweek trip to Minsk.
"I hope he will be okay," he said.
"Belarus are a good team. I saw them play against Ukraine and they are a dangerous team who play well. It will be a dangerous game."
Meanwhile, Capello could be set for further changes to his line-up after claiming the balance of the side against Kazakhstan was not right.
The Italian coach sent on Shaun Wright-Phillips for holding midfielder Gareth Barry with the half-time scores level at 0-0 after revealing his unhappiness at his team's attacking play.
"We needed a speedy player on the left and he did very well," said Capello of Wright-Phillips.
"In the first half we played too quick, tried to get the ball forward immediately and made too many mistakes.
"After the first 45 minutes I was not happy. In the second half (Wayne) Rooney played nearer (Emile) Heskey and he played very well."
