    Terry hails England's character

    02 Apr 2009 - 08:08:08

England's match-winner John Terry was pleased with the character Fabio Capello's team showed in the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine.

England appeared to be heading for a routine win when Peter Crouch fired them into a first-half lead but, after Andriy Shevchenko grabbed a 74th-minute equaliser for the visitors, Terry was on hand to fire home England's late winner.

The result maintained England's 100 per cent start to their qualifying campaign for next summer's World Cup Finals in South Africa and Terry is confident they can maintain that run in June when England face Kazakhstan and Andorra.

The Chelsea star said: "We were disappointed to concede a goal late on but showed great character to come back and win the game, so there are some real positives.

"It meant a lot to score and it's given us the win, so I'm delighted. There was some great fight and desire from the lads. we're not settling for 1-1 and we went on to win the game.

"We're in a great position in the group and this has really set us up. Ukraine have a game in hand but this puts us in a great position.

"We've got Kazakhstan away and Andorra at home so it's two tough games next but hopefully six points. At the moment things are going well."
