Terry hails dream debut
17 Aug 2006 - 07:56:23
England captain John Terry admitted that his debut as skipper of the national team was a dream come true, with the Chelsea stopper scoring in the 4-0 win against Greece.
Terry headed home just 14 minutes into his bow as David Beckham's successor, before Frank Lampard and Peter Crouch (2) wrapped up a comprehensive victory that gave new coach Steve McClaren a flying start.
Afterwards, Terry said: "This was a dream come true for me, especially scoring the goal.
"I have said it 100 times already, I could not feel any more proud than I do now.
"Leading the team out for the first time and singing the national anthem, the whole night really could not have gone any better.
"It was a great result and a great performance, but we have to make sure we carry it on in the same vein."
