Terry backs under-fire Mac
27 Mar 2007 - 14:29:04
England captain John Terry insists the entire squad is fully behind under-pressure boss Steve McClaren.
The former Middlesbrough manager has been severely criticised for a string of below-par performances by his team, culminating in Saturday's grim goalless draw in Israel.
But speaking on the eve of England's latest Euro 2008 qualifier against Andorra, Terry said: "The players are 100 per cent behind Steve.
"It's us against everybody. We need to stand up and be counted. Andorra is a must-win game and as a group of players we owe it to the manager.
"We owe it to the fans as well. I saw and heard their frustration after the draw in Israel. It isn't nice for them, they paid a lot of good money to come and watch us play.
"They have a right to their opinion. We took that on the chin and go on to the next game.
"They're all looking to see a good performance and a few goals against Andorra.
"But all the criticism brings us closer together."
