Terry World Cup in doubt - Reports

12 May 2010 15:05
John Terry's World Cup hopes could be over, after the defender suffered an injury to his right foot in training.

The Chelsea captain was rushed away wearing a protective boot for a scan to assess the damage, with some sources suggesting a suspected broken metatarsal.

Terry now looks certain to miss Sunday's FA Cup final against Portsmouth, and his chances of travelling to South Africa with the England squad could over if a broken metatarsal is indeed diagnosed.

The 29-year-old was stripped of the England captaincy earlier this year after relevations surrounding his private life, but remains a key member of the Fabio Capello's squad.

David Beckham famously suffered a metatarsal break in the build-up to the 2002 World Cup, returning to action after seven weeks of treatment, while Wayne Rooney has suffered the injury twice on the verge of major tournaments.
