Terry will not captain England under Capello

Fabio Capello has said John Terry will not return to England captain during his tenure as captain of the Three Lions. Terry lost the captaincy after the tabloid scandal that followed his affair with the ex-girlfriend of Wayne Bridge. Terry, who is married, faced calls to be dropped from the senior international team altogether and was snubbed by Bridge when Chelsea and Manchester City players shook hands before Saturday’s Premier League game at Stamford Bridge. “From here to the World Cup he will not be the captain, and not while I'm England manager," Capello said on Saturday. "John Terry is a leader and will be without the armband. I told him to be the same. I don't think the players have lost respect for him and the spirit will be the same."I asked always the captain to set an example for young children and fans. I told him.  I spoke with him and was very happy because he understood everything."I hope this is the end of these stories. But I didn't ever consider taking him out of the squad.” Capello said he hoped Bridge would consider returning to the England team, after saying earlier this week that he did not want to play in the same side as Terry as he would be a “divisive” influence. Bridge was not part of the squad named in the squad to face Egypt in a friendly at Wembley on Wednesday evening. Leighton Baines and Stephen Warnock will compete for the left-back berth, whoever plays it will be their first senior international start. The Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross was also named in the Three Lions squad for the first time.
