Terry stripped of captaincy

John Terry, the Chelsea defender, has had the England captaincy taken away from him after revelations of an extra-marital affair with the former colleague of Wayne Bridge. Terry was told of the decision by Capello on Saturday, ending a week of rumour about his position. "After much thought I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry," said Capello in a statement. "As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behaviour. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad." Terry is accused of an affair with Vanessa Perroncel, who dated Bridge for three years and had a child with him. Bridge, a former teammate of Terry's at Stamford Bridge and in the England team, had left for Manchester City. A poll on England MAD running this week suggests supporters were happy for Terry to remain as captain. We asked if he should keep the armband and two thirds of voters thought he should.
